50 Shades of Grey

I went and saw 50 shades of Grey with the girls at the beautiful Cameo cinema on Saturday and despite all the negative reviews I enjoyed the movie. I enjoyed all the books as well, and yes the book is definitely better than the movie, but it was still good to see.

There was a lot of sex and they did show a lot more than what I was expecting they would especially since the movie was only rated M.

The whole night was really good, there was a photo booth with cool props, yummy cocktails, goodie bags, great company and a long awaited movie. A great girls night out for sure.

Nothing beats a good book

Today I finished reading my fourth novel for the year and we are only three weeks into 2015.

All four books have been really good, but the two that stand out the most are “Wife on the run” by Fiona Higgins and “Other people’s diaries” by Kathy Webb.

Surprisingly both these novels were written by Australian authors and are set in Australia. Maybe that’s why I could relate to them more?

There was a common theme to both these books and an element of the depressing? ( which doesn’t sound quite right but hopefully you can understand what I mean by that).

The theme for this year seems to be reflecting on life and finding ways to improve on it. Both of these novels were about this. Although I believe that I am blessed with a good life, there is always room for improvement and I’m finding that the older I get the more important it is to find myself and to do the things I’ve always wanted to do.

For now though I will do as I always do when I finish a great book and that is to take time our to reflect. Some books stay with us a long time, some books change the way we think, some books make us feel good inside. These books did all that and more.

Game of Thrones

I have started watching the Game of Thrones series and once you get past the horrific violence and the graphic sex, the story line is quite good.

There is friendship and honor, kings and knights, treason, incest and I’m only five episodes into the first season.

I wish I had read the books, books are always better than movies.

Just a hopeless romantic

There is nothing better than losing yourself in a good book, except of course losing yourself in a great trilogy. I have just finished reading the Rebel series by Elle Casey and I can’t help feeling a little disappointed that I will no longer get to spend time with the characters that I have become so attached to.

In the past two weeks I have spent every spare moment reading. For me that is what differentiates a good book from a great one. A great book is one that you cannot put down. A story that as you near the end you are filled with dread knowing that the adventure will soon be over and your time with these characters will inevitably end.

Reading is just as much a form of stress relief as writing is. My genre of choice is romance. I am a sucker for love. Really strong, head over heels, love at first sight, can’t live without you type of love. What can I say, I guess I’m just a hopeless romantic.

Inspiration is all around us

Who would have thought that the foyer of a movie cinema would hold so much inspiration.

As I sit patiently waiting for my teenage son to come out of the movie he is seeing with his friends, I watch people as they come and go.

There are single dads with little kids in tow. Happy Families . Love struck teenagers with their hands entwined. A group of rowdy mates . An older couple that doesn’t look all that happy. Girlfriends ready for the latest chick flick. A handful of giggling teenage girls. Each person has a story to tell, and I am loving just sitting there imagining what that is.

If anyone is ever in need of some inspiration for a novel,or struggling with character development, then get yourself down to your local cinema, this place is inspiration personified.
