I nearly died of embarrassment today..

I nearly died of embarrassment today!! At about 2pm I was putting some files away at work when when one of my colleagues approaches me and informs me that I have a massive split right up the middle of my pants. To make matters worse I was wearing black pants at work today with white underwear underneath!!

So all day long I have been walking around oblivious to the fact that I was flashing everyone my backside. Once the initial horror passed I assessed my options and quickly threw on my raincoat which I had thankfully brought in with me today. Boy was I glad to leave work today.

Blog Of The Year Award 2013

Blog Of The Year Award 2013!!!!

I have been honoured with The Blog Of The Year Award 2013, by my fellow blogger Dear Kitty. Some Blog. This is truly an honour, I have not been blogging long and therefore feel very fortunate to have been nominated at all.

This is my first nomination for this blog award. In order to claim the award and post the star on my blog I need to follow the instructions below. First off I need to nominate other blogs for this award, there are so many amazing blogs out here in the blogosphere it’s hard to pick my favourites but I will give it a go.

The blogs which I am nominating are:

1. HarshReality

2. Travelling Macs

3. TalesAlongTheWay

4. Youth Of A Nation : Bent not Broken

5. Valeriu dg barbu blog

6. Rachelmankowitz

The instructions for this award are simple:

1-Select the blog(s) you think deserve the Blog Of The Year 2013 Award.

2-Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen- there are no minimum or maximum number of blogs required- and ‘present’ the blog(s) with their award.

3-Let the blog(s) that you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the instructions with them- (please don’t alter the instructions or the badges!)

4-Come over and say hello to the originator of the Blog Of The Year 2013 Award via this link:

5-You can now also join the Blog Of The Year Award Facebook Page.Click the link here:

Share your blog posts with an even wider audience.

6-And as a winner of the award- please add a link back to the blog that presented you with this award-and then proudly display the award on your blog- and start collecting stars!

Yes-That’s right-There are stars to collect!

Unlike other awards which you can only add to your blog once-this award is different!

When you begin you will receive the ’1 star’ award- and every time you are given the award by another blog- you can add another star!

There are a total of 6 stars to collect.

Which means that you can check out your favorite blogs- and even if they have already been given the award by someone else- you can still bestow it on them again and help them to reach the maximum of 6 stars! You can either ‘swop’ your badge for the next one each time you are given the award- or even proudly display all six badges if you are lucky enough to be presented with the award 6 times!

You can find all the badges and banners and information you need via this link: ‘Blog of The Year 2013′ Award Badges.

Congratulations to all the nominees! Best of luck to every one! Thank you once again Dear Kitty. Some Blog.

Liebster Award nomination

Recently I was nominated for the Liebster award. I am truly grateful and honoured to have been chosen! The idea of this award is to introduce newer blogs which are notable in some way, and help readers to investigate what they are all about.

CNAV 8th Annual Conference and Awards

Yesterday I attended the CNAV (Community Newspaper Association Victoria) annual conference and awards. It was my first time and as such I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Aside from the Mayor of Frankstons awkward opening, the rest of the day was a fantastic experience one I would recommend without hesitation to anyone.

I met so many amazing people who like me all play a small but important part in serving their community through the production of a community newspaper. We were lucky enough to share a table with the amazing girls from The Foothill newspaper, they were fun and friendly and helped to make the day as good as it was.

The guest speakers were awesome and very informative as were the workshops. Of course the highlight of the night was the awards ceremony even if the Bayswater Buzz didn’t win any awards this year. On the plus side the Ferntree Gully News that I also write for, won best editorial so I was very happy about that it was much deserved Anne Boyd the editor of The Ferntree Gully News is an amazing woman and an exceptional writer.

I met people from places I’d never heard of before, areas so remote that the paper run was less than 100. Every paper was unique, informative and of an impressively high standard. Although the need of a community paper is obvious and some would say even critical the lack of volunteers to help produce it continues to be a problem.

If you have been looking for something fun and rewarding to do, why not look towards your community newspaper they are always in need of dedicated people to help in anyway they can, be it through contributing stories, helping to distribute the paper or recruiting sponsor or advertisers, every little bit helps and will be greatly appreciated.

Short staffed again

It is a sign of the times that we are short staffed at work again!! I know that it is not just us, this seems to be the norm these days more and more businesses are having cut backs to staffing numbers, this is greatly to do with the global financial situation which does not appear to be easing up anytime soon.

As an employee though it is quite disheartening when four people are expected to do the work of six or seven. After an extended period of time when one has been over compensating like this, it starts to wear you down.

We try our best to remain upbeat and hopeful, hopeful that better times are just around the corner but the longer this situation goes on the harder it becomes to see that oh so coveted light at the end of the tunnel.

Like most people I try as hard as I can to keep on top of things, but if it continue to be as busy as we are and no relief is forthcoming then the pile of things that has been set aside in the “it can wait” basket will continue to grow and grow and grow and then the time will come when what’s in that basket can no longer wait, what will happen then? Does it really have to get to that point before management realises that we have a problem?

Sick of Sick Leave

What is it with sick leave and why is it the same people over and over constantly calling in sick. Are they really sick or just sick of being at work? In which case it may be time for them so start looking for something else, clearly they are not happy.

I am one of those people that hardly ever calls in sick even when I am sick I still manage to drag my sorry self into work and do my job. I save my sick leave in case my children are not well and I need it then, but touch wood they are generally healthy kids I am very fortunate I know.

Don’t get me wrong I do not begrudge someone calling in sick that is after all why we have sick leave but what really annoys me is people that constantly abuse the system, for goodness sake how many weeks can you possibly milk a blocked ear?

What’s with these doctors too? It is so easy to get time off these days. Doctor How Long we affectionately joke at work but this is really no laughing matter, it puts increased pressure on everyone else and with time can really bring the whole team morale down.

But what is the answer? Should it be as simple as you don’t work you don’t get paid? What about all those people out there who really need a job, who would give 100 percent and not 25 percent and that’s on a good day.

This probably sounds very harsh, I guess my compassion for these serial offenders is all gone, if you are sick you are sick, but the problem is I don’t think you really are sick, I think you’re just sick of work in which case I believe it’s time do the right thing and move on, this isn’t fair on anyone.
