Bring on the summer!!

Today the kids had their first swim it’s only October and we are swimming already!! The forecast this year is for a long hot summer, and I for one cannot wait!!

There is something about summer time that makes you want to smile. Makes you want to be outside sipping Spritz (delicious Italian cocktail) talking and laughing with family and friends.

Sweet Christmas Surprise

I received a Christmas card today from my dear fiend and fellow blogger, Elaine from foodbod. It was such a lovely surprise ,so unexpected and just so lovely and sweet just like Elaine herself.

I feel so privileged to have made such wonderful friends on WordPress, everyone has been so welcoming, so encouraging, it’s like we are all united in this little world of ours.

With Christmas only 8 sleeps away I want to take this moment to acknowledge all the things that I am so grateful for, my children, my family, my husband, my pets, my friends, my colleagues and every single person that I have had the honour of meeting on WordPress. Thank you all for making my life so wonderful, I truly am a very lucky woman to have you all in my life.

Too much partying

Is there such a thing as too much partying ? If you asked me last month I would have said “No Way “, but ask me tonight after I have been out every single night this week and I am starting to think there actually could be such a thing as too much partying.

The Christmas lead up is always a busy time of year, it’s a time to catch up with family and friends exchange presents and Christmas cards.

I’m feeling excited but so so tired and there are still 21 sleeps left till Christmas.

Friendships that stand the test of time

Caught up with some friends this evening, for what seems to have become our annual get together. Although we don’t see each other as often as we would like it always feels like we just pick up where we left off. It is very rare to have friendships like ours that just work. Every time we get together we just laugh and laugh and talk and talk, it is the ultimate girls night out, great company, nice food, champagne and chocolate what could possibly be better.

Herman the German Sourdough friendship cake

Herman the friendship cake

Today I was given a friendship cake!! His name is Herman and he is a German sourdough cake that is past on by friends.

So how it works is this, my friend Tasi gave me Herman in a plastic container along with a print out of the instructions that I need to follow.

On day one Herman needs to be placed in a large mixing bowl and covered loosely with a tea towel, for the next two days Herman must be stirred (if Herman stops bubbling he will die) on day four Herman gets hungry so you must feed him with a cup of plain flour a cup of sugar and a cup of milk. On day five, six, seven and eight stir him again. On day 9 divide Herman into four equal portions one for you to cook, and three to pass on to friends.
On day ten finishing preparing your Herman cake, cook and enjoy.

What an awesome concept, a friendship cake that is not only yummy but fun as well.

It’s only day one for our Herman the German Sourdough cake and the whole family is happy to have him here, let’s just hope we don’t kill him.

Friday night

IMG_2065.JPG

After a lovely dinner with the girls, it’s nice to come home to a quiet house, the kids fast asleep, hubby happy watching the cricket.

Time to snuggle up with my beautiful DT and catch up on what’s been happening in the blogosphere. Happy Friday every one.

Feeling content

Feeling quite content at the moment. Even though Harry lost both his soccer games tonight in the City 7’s competition, the boys he played against were just awesome.
They were older, stronger, bigger and they played superbly, yet they were not at all full of themselves, instead they were encouraging, helpful and inspiring.

The first game was against the under 14 reining champions, this team has only lost one game all winter season. The second game was against an under 13 team and they too were very good. Our boys are only under 12’s but tonight they matched it with the best of them.

I think our boys learnt a lot tonight. I think they learnt what true sportsmanship really is and I hope that the loss doesn’t not affect them, the scores were not a true reflection of how well they played. And I know that all the parents were proud as punch.

Ice Bar

Yesterday I visited Melbourne’s Ice Bar. For those of you that are not familiar with the Ice bar, let me elaborate. The ice bar is a bar like no other where the temperatures are a freezing 8 degrees below zero. Where everything is made entirely of ice. The seats, the tables, the ice sculptures, the entertaining ice hockey table, even the glasses where the cocktails are served are made of ice.

In order to be able to stand to be inside the ice bar you need to be rugged up in these super warm water proof ponchos, wearing ski gloves and ugg boots.

It was a really fun night, like no other. We had dinner in the quaint little Inuet restaurant next door which was just as lovely, lots of different flavours, nice ambience, and finished off the night at the Lindt chocolate shop sipping on mocha and eating yummy macaroons.

Almost makes you wish the weekend didn’t have to end, doesn’t it?
