Yarra Glen Chocolaterie and Ice creamery.

Part of my plan on spending some fun time with my children over this week that I have taken off from work, was a trip to the Yarra Glen Chocolaterie and Ice creamery. I had heard great things about this place which is situated in the picturesque Yarra Glen only 40 minutes almost straight run from where we live and was keen to see for myself what all the hype was about.

Although I did get some resistance at the start from my eldest who at the moment does not want to do anything with his family, I think in the end he too ended up having a good time.

We didn’t have the nice sunny weather but we were fortunate enough to miss the rain so were able to wander around and explore the beautiful grounds as well as the actual Chocolaterie.

Who would not be happy surrounded by all this yummy delicious creamy chocolate!! The kids loved the massive sample bowls and went back several times.

We finished off the day with a yummy Ice cream each which was just delicious and gigantic in size we sat outside on the deck overlooking the beautiful countryside, it was just lovely and I highly recommend it as a great day out for all.

School holidays- what happened to having fun??

I have taken a week off work to hang out with my kids over the school holidays and have some fun, but it seems that technology has captured my children and is holding them hostage, because aside from skyping with their friends and playing games on line they do not want to really do anything!!

We have arranged for some of their friends to come over for a sleepover Monday night and to spend the day with us on Tuesday, and we are catching up with some family friends on Friday but aside from that they really don’t want to do anything else.

I should be happy I guess that they enjoy being home but I can’t help feeling like they are missing out by locking themselves away like this. In a few weeks time school will resume again and the carefree days of the summer holidays will be but a distant memory, surely they must want to do more than this?

So tomorrow I have planned a fun filled day for us, and despite the looks of horror I received and the blatant lack of enthusiasm I am determined that we will have fun!!

56 sleeps till Christmas

I have been playing catch up this week, or so it feels! I wake up in the morning hit the deck running and don’t seem to stop until I am back in bed at night time , at which point I am so tired I can barely stay awake to watch a TV show.

The hope is, that as we get closer to Christmas and the festive season, things will start wrapping up and we can focus on the good stuff, the fun stuff. My column is due tomorrow this is the final edition of the paper for the year. Also I need to get the roster out for next years Festival so that people can start reserving the date. There is a presentation that needs to be finalised for an annual forum, not to mention everything else, birthdays, anniversary’s, sports break ups, graduation I could go on but my head is spinning thinking about it all.

With only 56 sleeps till Christmas I don’t know whether to be excited so just terrified!!! Am I the only one feeling the pressure I wonder??

A weekend in Sydney

Today I am in beautiful sunny Sydney, away from the freezing cold weather of Melbourne , taking in the sights of this gorgeous city with my brother and sister.

This has become something of a tradition for us now, once a year the three of us get away for a fun filled weekend. It’s a great chance to catch up and enjoy each other’s company while exploring new places.

We visited Darling harbour and the gorgeous Chinese garden. We saw Alphie the giant inflatable turtle whose presence in the harbour marks the beginning of the Undersea Art Exhibition held at Sea Life Sydney Aquarium. Artist BJ Harvey hopes that his thought provoking creation will spark conversation and debate about the health and longevity of our reefs. Alphie’s arrival marks the beginning of the Undersea Art Exhibition held at Sea Life Sydney Aquarium.

Tonight we are off to the infamous Star casino.

Happy Friday everyone šŸ˜€šŸ˜€šŸ˜€

Need to get motivated

Well it’s Sunday night again here in exceptionally chilly Melbourne and even though I had a relatively quiet weekend planned, I still didn’t manage to do any writing. Arrrggghh

For some reason I just wasn’t at all productive this weekend. Maybe it’s cause I’m fighting a cold, and feel a bit tired, or it could just be because it was sooo cold, I’m sure I could come up with many more excuses if I tried.

The weekend was not a total waste though, I did manage to rearrange my boys bedroom, and make the most awesome dish that the gorgeous talented Elaine from Foodbod shared and it was just delicious! And I completed the 30 day Facebook Ab challenge.

So all in all it was not a bad weekend, unfortunately I will need to get motivated to get back to writing, my column is due on the 11th July so I have less than two weeks to put it all together, but it is school holidays now which means a lot less running around and a lot more time for writing. Have a great week everyone 😊😊

30 Day Facebook AB Challenge

20140601-154157.jpg

After being inspired by fellow blogger Uncle Spike and his recent post aptly titled “Oh dear what have I done??” I decided to bite the bullet and enrol for the Facebook 30 day AB challenge.

Not wanting to go it alone, I promptly recruited my sister, husband, son and dear friend along for the ride as well. Initially my sister had doubts, which is fair enough. Although the challenge starts off slowly it does build up and so that by day 30 you need to be able to do 125 sit ups, 200 crunches, 65 leg raises and 120 seconds of planking.

Today being only day one of the challenge started off relatively mildly, 15 sit ups, 5 crunches, 5 leg raises and 10 seconds of planking was all that was required. We took turns holding each other’s legs. George wanted to video record his dad on my iPhone but I wouldn’t let him.

The whole thing only took a couple of minutes and of course Dexter wanted to get in on the action, so did the cats. Looks like this challenge is going to be a real family bonding experience, who would have thought?

If you haven’t heard of the 30 day Facebook AB challenge, you can simply google ’30 day Facebook AB challenge’ and it will come up with all the in formation required. You don’t even need yo have Facebook, it’s really just a personal challenge for yourself aimed to make you feel better, healthier and that can only be good right?

Sand Sculptures and sunshine

20140406-202653.jpg

I’ve had a lovely weekend, busy but lovely. On Friday night we had family and friends over for a small celebration for the Twins birthday. Saturday I was working then I caught up with my sister. And today the weather was a glorious 25degrees so we headed done to the beach and visited the much publicised sand sculptures.

The theme of this year’s sand sculptures was ” Storyland” and there were at least a dozen or so sculptures made out of sand depicting story book characters. There were Mister Men, Harry Potter, Hairy Maclary, Postman Pat, Peter Rabbit, The Lion The Witch The wardrobe and more. We even had our photo taken on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Although the sculptures were very impressive the entry price was very steep, we were lucky enough to get our tickets at a discounted price which was just as well.

We spent the rest of the afternoon on the foreshore enjoy the sunshine. I am totally exhausted now we all are, thank god it’s school holidays here is Melbourne even though I still have to go to work tomorrow the fact that there is no school to prepare for just makes for a so much more relaxing evening.
