Bring on the summer!!

Today the kids had their first swim it’s only October and we are swimming already!! The forecast this year is for a long hot summer, and I for one cannot wait!!

There is something about summer time that makes you want to smile. Makes you want to be outside sipping Spritz (delicious Italian cocktail) talking and laughing with family and friends.

Bring back the sunshine

I have had this feeling of impending doom for quite a while now.  No matter what I do I just can’t shake it.  The weather here in Melbourne is cold and wet and miserable and it pretty much sums up everyones mood of late.

I have one friend grieving the sudden loss of her husband. One friend coming to terms with a terminally ill nephew and now the possiblity of fighting cancer herself.

My mother-in-law is unwell, my father-in-law is showing early signs of memory loss. Dexter is still not better, I took him out on a test walk yesterday and  even though we only went around the block by the end of the walk he was limping.

Then today the icing on the cake was when one of our most difficult clients ever called this morning and created chaos in his usual arrogant and loathful manner.

This client is a pathological lier, he starts off all nice and friendly and the minute things dont go his way, he turns into this horrible bully who tries to intimidate and abuse with his vulgarity.  The mere mention of his name is enough ruin our day. In the span of half an hour he called 7 times this morning.

I am hoping that the weather is what is causing this  bad feeling  and that once the sun is back warming us with its happy rays, this feeling of doom will dissolve.

Winter sports

Winter is my least favourite season of the year. Cold dark nights and wet and windy days are not my idea of fun at all.

This year winter appears to have set in earlier than ever. Technically we have only just embarked on the last month of Autumn, and yet it already feels like hibernation time. In a another life I could totally have been a bear. The whole idea of sleeping through winter appeals to me on so many levels.

Unfortunately most boy sports are actually winter sports, so tonight I will be braving the elements as I sit and wait for my son to finish his soccer training. Once he is finished I will rush him home only to pick up the other son who also has basketball training tonight.

Luckily last years Mother’s Day gift from my daughter was a cute travel mug which I plan on taking along with me tonight. I think a nice steaming cup of tea is just what is in order.

Sand Sculptures and sunshine

I’ve had a lovely weekend, busy but lovely. On Friday night we had family and friends over for a small celebration for the Twins birthday. Saturday I was working then I caught up with my sister. And today the weather was a glorious 25degrees so we headed done to the beach and visited the much publicised sand sculptures.

The theme of this year’s sand sculptures was ” Storyland” and there were at least a dozen or so sculptures made out of sand depicting story book characters. There were Mister Men, Harry Potter, Hairy Maclary, Postman Pat, Peter Rabbit, The Lion The Witch The wardrobe and more. We even had our photo taken on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Although the sculptures were very impressive the entry price was very steep, we were lucky enough to get our tickets at a discounted price which was just as well.

We spent the rest of the afternoon on the foreshore enjoy the sunshine. I am totally exhausted now we all are, thank god it’s school holidays here is Melbourne even though I still have to go to work tomorrow the fact that there is no school to prepare for just makes for a so much more relaxing evening.

Learn to read the signs of heatstroke

As Melbourne sweats again during yet another heatwave, I thought it would be beneficial to share some insight on signs to look out for of heatstroke in animals. This helpful poster was posted on Facebook by The Save A Dog organisation as a timely reminder to all pet parents.

Summer Holidays

The suffocating heat that continues to plague Melbourne has taken its toll. Today the temperature has reached an excessive 44 degrees, and we are all feeling the effects. No energy to do anything but swim in the pool and then relax and surf the blogosphere. Not a bad life really. Loving the summer holidays.
