Another year older

Another year older, I would like to be able to say wiser, but somehow I don’t think so, I may be forty five now but I still feel like I did twenty years ago, of course I wish I still looked the same but alas no. I spent the day celebrating my birthday with the people I love most in the world, my family. The sun was shining, everyone was relaxed and happy, there was champagne and nice food, what more could a girl possibly ask for?

I have really been thoroughly spoilt with many beautiful birthday messages and presents from my amazing friends and extended family. My mum outdid herself again and made me the most decadent chocolate birthday cake, unfortunately we were all too full to enjoy it, but I’m sure tomorrow the girls at work will be happy when I take in left over cake to share.

      1. No, actually, a lot of us are grateful, acknowledging the privilege we have to continue to live and mature. I, for one, am quite certain I am 60 and do not feel nor do I want to feel that I have stalled in a previous decade.

I think our culture prizes youth to the point of absurdity. It is not a good thing not to mature; it’s a tragedy, really.

Grow up .Grow old. Be glad. Be sure. Take it on. Be happy about it.

I have lost dozens of friends to earlier deaths, so I stand in my age firmly and with thankfulness.

  1. Happy Birthday – and I’ll admit, in my mind I’m 20! 🙂 It’s not that I don’t value my age (40), I do – but in my mind, I still think I’m in my 20’s and can do everything I used to!!! And, still to this day you can ask me “Why on earth did you do that?” and like a 20 year old, I don’t have a good answer. It just seemed like the fun thing to do at the time!

I’m glad you got spoiled and were able to spend time with those you love!

  2. Congratulations upon your Birthday… We are forever Young!.. I turned 60 in May.. and I think Being 60 is the best year yet… Honest! … It gets better and Better as we are only as young as we feel 🙂

    1. I totally agree that we are only as young as we feel. And the older I get the happier I am within myself. It’s nice to hear that 60 is your best year yet, my sister and my husband both turn 50 next year and they too are actually really looking forward to it. Thank you for the birthday wishes 🙂

  3. I…want…that…cake. Oh, and a very happy birthday or as we say over here “Hauoli la hanau!” By the way, don’t feel bad about 45. First of all it’s only about 6 1/2 in dog years and, besides, I have socks that are that old. No big deal.
